There are so many great and interesting things to do in this great town of ours; every week I will submit a sampling for your selection. Granted, they will mostly be about opportunities to volunteer in gardens or about tours, classes related to civic engagement and stewardship, but its good for you and you probably wont find this info everywhere 🙂

Saturday March 19th– Tree Pruning Practice with Bronx Green-Up & The New York Botanical Garden from 11am-2pm at El Flamboyan Community Garden, Tinton Ave at East 150th st.

“March is a great month to finish winter pruning. help us prune small trees and shrubs, learn how to prune fruit trees to improve production and protect tree health” Bronx Green Up. Contact Sara Katz at 718-817-8026 for more information.

March 23- See The Orchid Show at the New York Botanical Garden  from 4:30pm-5:30pm in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory. Tour the country’s premier orchid exhibition. Seed packets will also be distributed, one set per community garden. Contact Sara Katz at 718-817-8026 for more information.

March 26th- Garden Planning and Record Keeping with Farming Concrete, at the New York Botanical Garden, Harding Lab. “Do you ever wonder how much food grows in your garden? How about in the whole city? Learn how to keep simple records of your harvest and contribute to citywide estimate of how much our gardens are growing”.
